It’s dark at the foot of a candle––Don’t understand that words often used in daily life––

　"Words often used in daily life have diverse meanings and are difficult to translate". There is usually happens in translation work.

　"Tension" "Claim" "Complex", those words are still localizing into Japanese, but those often deviates from original meaning.

Because those words are original meanings of "partial" has become widespread in Japan. When We see a familiar word in the English original paper, our accidentally interpreting for familiar means in Japan.

　"Chinese is the same as Japanese use "Chinese character", so the meaning can be understood from the printing surface".

　There are pitfalls there too.

　For example, "足 (foot)" and "脚 (leg)" are same say "Ashi" in Japanese, but those are different parts of the body. "足" is defined as the point from the ankle, and "脚" is defined as the entire length from the thigh to the toes.

　In Chinese, "脚 (jiao)" starts from the ankle, if you say from the thigh to the bottom all the way for "腿 (tui)". Of course, there is also "足 (zu)", but it is not often used to describe the body in China.

　Finger's name is also slightly different.

　Thumb in Japanese say "親指 (Parental finger)", but in Chinese say "(大)拇指 ((Da)Muzhi)", Index finger say "食指 (shizhi)", that's means eating finger. Japanese also sometime use to "食指". The middle finger is the same as "中指 (Zhongzhi)", and the little finger is "小(拇)指 (Xiao (mu) zhi)" in Chinese, that Japanese say "小指(Little finger)", so those are a little different of Chinese character.

　The remaining medicinal finger is Japanese say "薬指(Medicinal finger)", but Chinese say "無名指 (Wumingzhi)", that's means is "Nameless finger".

If you to ask someone who is good at English: "How do you say second finger in English?", they probably won't be able to give you an immediate answer. Of course, it is called "Index finger" and the meaning is "pointing-finger", that is strangely same means in Japanese.

　The more familiar words easier than make to diversify and if you carelessly judge the words based on their appearance that it makes to you end up mistranslating them. There are many familiar words that are more not mentioned in textbooks or books, and you may be surprised to find out more about them.
