Speaking of Tokyo's symbols, it's still "Tokyo Tower", not "Tokyo Sky Tree".

If there is no Tokyo Tower in the image of central Tokyo, somehow it doesn't match.

For Tokyo Sky Tree become a symbol of Tokyo both in name and reality, it seems like it will still take some time.

The same phenomenon as in central Tokyo is occurring in Shanghai, China.

There is an "東方明珠電視塔" in the city, which is translated as "Oriental Pearl Television Tower."

Like Tokyo Tower, it opened in 1994 as a radio tower. As an indispensable building for images of Shanghai, it has become a symbol of the city.

Just as "Tokyo Tower" became more popular than the official name "Japan Radio Tower", the Oriental Pearl Television Tower is also often called the "Shanghai Tower."

In recent years, a complicated phenomenon has arisen regarding this name.

In 2016, the 632 meters high-rise Shanghai Tower was built.

The English name of this building is "Shanghai Tower". In other words, this building became the official "Shanghai Tower."

On the other hand, for a long time, the image of the Oriental Pearl Television Tower being the same as the Shanghai Tower, the Oriental Pearl Television Tower is still commonly known as the Shanghai Tower.

Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree have different names, so there is no confusion, but Shanghai Tower, the symbol of Shanghai city has two buildings.

If you search for "Shanghai Tower" on the internet, both buildings will be detected.

Official websites of travel agencies etc. are OK, but personal travel blogs on SNS often do not properly recognize which building Shanghai Tower refers to, please be careful when you viewing.
